Who we serve

Our work serves creative people with sensitive bodyminds, courageous hearts and radical politics. They are deeply passionate about climate justice, trans and queer rights, and reparations for historical injustices. They are driven by a desire to create a more equitable and just world. They believe in progressive values and are actively engaged in causes that align with these beliefs. This passion stems from a strong sense of empathy and a commitment to making a positive impact on society.

What sets our work apart

Epigenetic Alchemy is a unique blend of non-binary magic, grounded in critical theory, and deeply rooted in a specific indigenous tradition. In service to the collective, I analyze and operationalize ancestral healing through Five Levels that correspond to the Five Phases of Chinese Medicine. By taking into account the macro context of structural violence, my method attends to dynamics that spiritual bypassing practitioners ignore.

The mainstream healing space mirrors larger society: cisgender, straight, white norms permeate the messaging and practices of popular healers.

With a background in youth organizing, academic excellence in Africana Studies, and extensive training in Chinese medicine and Daoism, my approach is informed by both grassroots activism and rigorous scholarship.

We are committed to addressing structural oppression, honoring indigenous traditions with reciprocity, and creating a transformative space where everyone, regardless of gender or sexual identity, can thrive and heal.

Here are some guiding questions to see if our offerings might be of service to you. If you identify with any of the below, schedule a discovery call to see about working together.

  • Purpose and Fulfillment: You’re seeking a sense of purpose that goes beyond the feelings of despair and anger you often experience. You desire a meaningful path that allows you to channel your passions into tangible actions for positive change.

Embodied Healing: You deeply desire to heal from the emotional burdens caused by intergenerational trauma, family drama, and the overwhelming emotions triggered by climate catastrophe and racial capitalism. You yearn for a way to process these sensations and transform them into a source of strength.

Empowerment: You aspire to break free from the cycles of reactive patterns stemming from complex trauma. You want to be empowered to make choices aligned with your values and to shape your own narrative rather than being trapped by past wounds.

  • Amidst all this chaos, can I make a difference? Can I find a purpose that aligns with my values and brings meaning to my life?

The world’s problems are so vast, and my emotions are overwhelming. How can I navigate this without burning out?

The weight of intergenerational trauma is affecting my relationships and wellbeing. Can I heal from this pain?

I want to live by my values, but capitalism’s demands often clash with my beliefs. How can I survive and take care of my loved ones within a system that contradicts my principles?

Can I truly create the impact I envision? Can I overcome my obstacles and transform my passion into actionable change?

I often feel dismissed or misunderstood. Am I valued beyond my productivity and others’ ideas of me?

I want to leave a positive legacy for future generations, to contribute to a better world. How can I make an impact that integrates the mistakes and best qualities of my lineages?

I’m passionate about social justice, but I’ve been burned and burnt out. How can I show up for change work sustainably?

  • Emotional Overwhelm: Dealing with intense emotions like anger, despair, and grief in response to social injustices, climate crisis, and other critical issues leaves you feeling disempowered and constantly on the defensive. It might feel like being buffeted by hail and winds with no respite.

Interpersonal Conflicts: The generational conflicts and family/community drama you experience due to intergenerational trauma and structural oppression create stress and strain in your relationships. This impacts your health and ability to engage fully in your causes.

Balancing Values and Survival: While you are critical of racial capitalism, you acknowledge the necessity of money to survive. Balancing your values with the need to survive within the system presents a complex challenge. Your energy spirals in internal conflicts about capitalism, societal inequities, and your responsibilities to yourself and those around you.

Taking Action: Despite your passion and awareness, you might feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the issues you care about. You could struggle to translate your beliefs into actionable steps that create real change. You may find yourself in a freeze response.

Lack of Direction: You may struggle to find purpose and direction amid the chaos of the world. Flooded with concern about multiple crises, you feel uncertain where to focus your change-making work when so much is wrong with the world.

Inaction and Guilt: You feel ashamed or powerless about not doing enough to address societal issues. You get stuck in guilt and frustration for not taking more direct action. Nothing may ever feel like enough because hegemonic violence perpetuates itself systematically.

Isolation and Disconnect: At times you feel disconnected from others due to differences in values and the intensity of your emotions. You deal with a sense of isolation in your change-making work and personal journey.

Private fears: You feel worried about thoughts, feelings and desires that might be judged by leftists. For example, you might actually want a house or a monogamous relationship, but feel unsure if your radical friends would judge you as a sell-out. You manage anxiety about being dog-piled online if you make a mistake in the eyes of those whose politics you admire. Sometimes you make choices out of fear and people-pleasing, and then feel off inside of your own body.

Physical symptoms: Your body is keeping the score of violations from this lifetime and those of your ancestors. This can show up as pain, dissociation, and nervous system dysregulation. This makes it challenging to show up for yourself, your loved ones, and the causes you care about. It makes life feel like something to be endured rather than a miraculous experience.

Time whirlpools: The hamster wheel of survival in racial capitalism makes it difficult to care for yourself, your loved ones, and your causes. You find yourself going down internet rabbit holes and sucked into social media time-warps. Information overload leaves you feeling scattered and fractured, with your body and emotions reacting to a seemingly endless flood of terrible news. You manage this the best you can, but it takes so much time.

  • Time Commitment: You might be concerned about the time required to engage in this work. You are likely busy with work, organizing, and personal commitments.

It’s not easy to make time in racial capitalism while keeping your relational commitments. Our programs are built with flexibility and our packages can be scheduled to fit with your availability.

Skepticism about Effectiveness: You might be skeptical about the effectiveness of ancestral healing and/or energy work in addressing your emotional challenges and creating meaningful change.

We support you in practicing discernment. We invite you to check out testimonials, listen to these podcasts, try our free meditations, watch this video, read about our values, consider our intellectual lineage, subscribe to our mailing list, and book a complimentary discovery call to get to know our work.

It has been our experience and observation that ancestral work is the key because it unlocks patterns stored in the body that play out interpersonally.

You may also want to consider if skepticism about energy work might be a form of prejudice against non-linear indigenous ways of knowing.

Financial Investment: In an economy so divorced from care for life, you might hesitate due to concerns about price and whether it's a justifiable investment.

First things first, you must prioritize giving your body what you need to live. That is sacred.

We have payment plans for our course and a refund policy you can read about here.

The economic system we inhabit is violent, and many of us have trauma around money. We are am right here with you! If your survival needs are fully met, yet you’re aware that your hesitation has an emotional charge, let’s talk about it. Below these fears lie a rich treasure trove of subconscious and unconscious feelings and beliefs that benefit from being surfaced and faced.

Our hope is that whether you choose to invest in your transformation with us or not, you do so from a centered place of empowered self-knowledge, not fear.

Overwhelm from Information Overload: You’re bombarded with information from all sides, leading to mental fatigue. It seems like everyone’s selling something and there are too many things going on at once.

As a highly sensitive person, I feel you! What works for me is to narrow my focus to the programs and guides that really work for me. (In my case, Ile Orunmila Afedefeyo, College of Tao, Parting Clouds Daoist Education, and Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.) I may or may not be a guide for you, and our programs may or not be a fit. We are rooting for you to close your eyes, go within, and listen to your inner wisdom to discern the path that you know is right for you. We sincerely desire for all of us to find the teachers and support system that best serves us. Everything on this site is created to provide you with the information you need to make a sovereign decision about what is best for you.

Family and Relationship Commitments: Dealing with family dynamics and relationships can be time-consuming and emotionally draining. You don’t know if you have time for another thing.

Our offerings are grounded in evidence-based strategies to address the roots of relational harm in intergenerational trauma due to systemic oppression. This work can directly address your challenges and bring relief if you wholeheartedly engage.

Burnout: Intense engagement in change work can lead to burnout, bitterness, and emotional exhaustion. You might feel like you don’t have it in your heart to open up to more inner work.

We are rooting for you to embody a sustainable commitment to your values that allows you to show up from your overflow, not from your reserve. These offerings came from our own journeys with this kind of burnout and are full of tools to foster embodied resilience for the long haul.

Skepticism of Self-Help Offerings: You might have tried personal development modalities in the past without success, leading to skepticism.

Ultimately, real healing isn’t individual. Total societal transformation through reparations and land back is the solution to our multi-pronged catastrophes. While we navigate racial capitalism and the fall of empire, however, how we treat ourselves and each other is vitally important. I won’t pretend that my offerings will fix all your pain; that’s impossible.

Yet I know from experience that my personal healing journey has made me a better community member, friend, partner, and relative. I treat others better and reduce the trauma that ripples through our relational web. I know that it makes a difference because I’ve lived it. Whether you work with us or not, I sincerely believe that your healing radiates through the collective and benefits everyone around you. One of the great lies of racial capitalism is individualism, and indigenous peoples have always known that we are related. You healing your own lineage impacts more beings than you will ever know.

Complex trauma and qualified care: You may know that your trauma from structural violence is deep-rooted, and be skeptical of my capacity to provide care rather than re-triggering you.

We honor your self-awareness and the importance of your self-protective practices. We are committed to referring out when we know that we do not have the capacity to provide the care needed. This is one of the key functions of a discovery call. If we realize that you need a different level and/or form of care after we have begun work together, we will refund money for unused sessions and provide referrals to qualified professionals and organizations.

Skepticism about paying for ancestor work: You’ve seen or maybe experienced the scammers who DM saying “I have a message from your ancestors.“ You’re aware that racial capitalism systematically causes intergenerational trauma and that greedy folks see that pain as a market to exploit.

We’re glad you’re thinking critically about this, because we’re frustrated about it, too. Disconnect from my inheritance of ancestral folkways is a profoundly intimate part of my story. Letting someone else into that process - and paying them for it - is a big step that involves vulnerability and trust, so discernment is key.

There is so much ancestral healing that you can do on your own, because you yourself are the shrine where your forebears live on. Your embodied and subconscious memory are the archive. You don’t need to give your power away to someone outside of you. You are the primary contact point with your lineages.

In my experience, it has been helpful for a spiritual practitioner who is not enmeshed in my family of origin to offer support as a mirror. Like I can’t see my own ears, those around me can perceive dynamics that are out of my range of awareness. This is the support that I offer, in addition to my toolbox of evidence-based strategies for managing common challenges in this work. If that sounds like it would help you in your process, let’s talk about it.

  • Embodied Presence: You long to feel at home in your skin. You know you deserve to sleep deeply, to breathe into your lower belly, to laugh freely from your gut, to feel a gentle stillness inside and out, to loosen your jaw, to drop your shoulders, to let your facial expressions tell your truth rather than a pleasant mask, to stretch out as luxuriously as a housecat in a pool of sunlight. You’re ready to claim your pleasure, your relaxation, and your vitality. You’re in the mood to feel energized and inspired, breaking into a grin as you tip your face to the sky.

Time Expansion: You know that every breath you breathe is unique and transient. You’re here to spend your moments experiencing joy, pleasure, connection, and meaning. You see how many hours, days, months and years get lost to drama that’s been on repeat for generations and reproducing itself interpersonally in movement, friendships, and romance. You want to take back your days from hours spent spiraling, in despair, in denial, and suppressing feelings under numbing coping mechanisms.

Harnessing Emotional Intelligence: You want to develop a deep understanding of your embodied experience, leading to emotional intelligence that empowers you to navigate conflicts, build healthier relationships, and make informed decisions.

Transforming Anger into Action: By learning to channel your anger constructively, you become a more effective agent of change. This transformation allows you to use their passion for positive impact. You get to feel empowered and purposeful rather than reactive and defeated.

Personal Healing as Societal Healing: Realizing that your personal healing journey contributes to healing the collective, you “change yourself to change the world” (Grace Lee Boggs). You experience the ripple effects of your transformation impacting your community and beyond.

Creating Supportive Networks: My courses allow you to connect with like-minded individuals who share your values and concerns. This network becomes a source of encouragement, collaboration, and collective action.

Understanding Historical Context: You radically confront the historical events and systemic injustices that have impacted your own family's narrative. This understanding fosters empathy for relatives without apologizing for unacceptable behavior, and allows you to identify patterns you can shift for future generations.

Navigating Intergenerational Conflicts: Developing skills to communicate and reconcile across generations, you can foster healthier relationships and mutual understanding that breaks cycles of intergenerational trauma.

Leveraging Emotional Alchemy: You develop facility with the process of transforming negative experiences into positive energy. This tactic set unlocks resilience and empowerment.

Advocating through Storytelling: You radically reclaim and transform your narrative, connect with others on a deeper level, and inspire others.

Catalyzing Systemic Change: You discover how your embodied healing allows you to sustainably show up for movement work long-term.

Empowerment through Creativity: Uncovering creative outlets as a means of self-expression and empowerment, you uncover hidden talents. You might discover gifts for writing, art, or music that speak to others with similar experiences. Breaking through blocks, you manifest your visions of radical love.

Mentorship and Leadership: As you progress on your journey, you can find opportunities to mentor others, becoming a leader in the realm of emotional healing, social justice, and intergenerational understanding.

Ancestral Epigenetic Alchemy

So you’ve committed to your ancestral healing. Why choose to work with us?

  • I had to.

As a biracial kid in a predominantly white environment, I was constantly answering the question, “What are you?” Being a bookworm, I turned to texts like The Color of Wealth at fourteen years old. My formative memories of being asked to categorize myself based on others’ inability to identify my ancestry led me to Africana Studies and racial justice organizing. By studying history, I understood that “If Black women were free, it would mean that everyone else would have to be free, since our freedom would necessitate the destruction of all systems of oppression” (Combahee River Collective).

Like many high-performing Asian kids, my mental health challenges went undetected. During my first year of undergrad, centuries of intergenerational trauma erupted within me. My and my ancestors’ grief and rage overflowed through my soma. I dropped out of college and went no-contact with my family of origin.

Desperate to remedy the ache in my bones and spirit, I sought out the ancient mysteries of my paternal lineage in rural Taiwan. My astrological birth chart clearly shows that my life path is about ancestral reconnection and healing, and I’ve gone about it with varying degrees of skill and care. At twenty years old, I was newly aware of myself as a queer and non-binary person. The culture clash between a US-raised gender and sexual minority with Taiwanese religious structures was intense.

Long story short, I left Taiwan deeply traumatized and full of shame. The weight of generational pain was so unbearable that I couldn’t sleep through the night. As a college dropout, I struggled to meet my basic needs for food and shelter. Ifá, Thien Hau Temple, and recovery communities carried me to the point of re-applying to college in 2015.

At Brown, I was blessed to learn closely from the brilliant Dr. Keisha-Khan Y. Perry (my advisor), Professor Elmo Terry-Morgan, and the late great Professor Anani Dzidzienyo. Along with rest of the incredible Africana Studies faculty, they trained me in critical Black Studies knowledge and methods. This helped me understand the current world system and learn from the best practices of freedom fighters across time.

With an undergraduate degree, I was then able to begin Chinese medical studies at Yo San University. Along with my Daoist healing training through the College of Tao and Parting Clouds Daoist education, I have been filling my toolbox with medical and energetic strategies to address the embodied and spiritual trauma of systemic oppression.

I have lived the truth that ancestral healing can unlock purpose and joy even in the most painful, tragic ancestral histories.

One tenet of ancestral healing is acceptance that the past cannot be changed, but we can transform our lives by changing how we relate to that past. I can’t change the years I and my ancestors lost to hurting ourselves and others. I can’t undo the mistakes I’ve made on my ancestral healing path. Yet by sharing the lessons I’ve gained from all of the above, I can help others avoid my errors.

One of my primary spiritual protectors is Mazu, goddess of the South China Sea. She famously guides boats to safety in rough waters. As someone who almost drowned in my ancestral trauma, I am a navigator familiar with these seas.

  • Theoretical rigor: Africana critical thought is the foundation. The macroeconomic, ontological, and socio-historical structures of the past millennium systematically cause intergenerational trauma. Everything I do stems from this reality.

Indigenous healing methods: I draw from my training in the 5,000+ year-old medical traditions of China to address the spiritual and somatic effects of systemic intergenerational trauma. I do not mix-and-match between a grab-bag of decontextualized New Age modalities. I am in ongoing reciprocal relationships with living lineage bearers who are themselves descendants of unbroken medicine families. I am accountable to them directly.

Biomedical integration: I draw upon my hundreds of hours of graduate training in biomedicine, never pretending that energy alone can solve a problem. I share resources for navigating the Western medical system, and taking advantage of its strengths, while also protecting oneself from its systemic failures.
